King Tiger 1:16 – # 71 7

Deadline.

Deadline.

Yeah, well, my original deadline didn’t hold. It just hit me this morning that it’s going to be very tight: we have the Midsummer festivities coming up this Friday, meaning I have only tomorrow and Thursday, plus Monday after Midsummer to work full out on the kit (Midsummer will be celebrated in our country house down in Vadstena). After that I have only one more week working in the shop, then it’s off to the country again for a month! The build just HAVE to be finished before that… count on more intense updates here the coming two weeks.

On another note, I’m really happy with my super-compact workshop corner (actually placed in our living room)! This would be Version 1.3 of it, and I’ve even managed to find place for the airbrush, compressor and spray booth. All my tools are within easy reach from the ”Pilot Seat”, neatly sorted after category (sanding and shaping, glueing, painting, photoetch tools, scratchbuilding material and so on). It’s just so much more inspiring to have a nice working space!

Hi Hans– I worked against a deadline once. never again–I worked and worked and skipped my real job to finish. My wife and I checked into our hotel Friday night-I worked through part of that night–the next day,Saturday, was show day. I finished with Gold in advanced class, Peoples choice, and Best American vehicle overall.–I also consumed about 5 or 6 Pepcid AC for upset stomach, to much alchohol and 4 or 5 adavan (Zanex) for my nerves—never again. I take it slower these days and enjoy it more. Best of luck to you –not that you need luck— the model is Killer 🙂

    Halloj Anders!

    Hi William,
Yeah, deadlines and modelling don’t mix too well, I’ve had some over the years! Now I don’t have a real deadline with the commissioner, just with myself: I just don’t want the project unfinished when I leave for my holiday, I know it will haunt me, and mess up my supposed resting!
What was that build you had such successs with, any link to pictures?

    Hi Hans

the model I was refering to was my 1/16 Tamiya M4 105 first released in 1976.
A mere toy tank by todays standards.and the basic challenge to bring it up to todays specs! It probably took 1/10 % the effort you have
put into your Tiger II. However, I put ALOT of research into it and spent about 7 and one half months
making it correct to my eye and known specs in every way I was able.
One of the most unique features (which does not come across perfetcly in pictures, is that,
I painted the whole exterior of the model with a brush and artist oils thinned with turpenoid. (over a base of tamiya drab, lightened with
yellow– not just washes and fades, Painted with a pallet full of varios shade of O.D.with a basic ’stippling effect’, pretending I was Van Gogh!—-
the results in real life are very very good.– enough talk– I direct you now to the build log:

and my Fotki account : http://public.fotki.com/WilliamCarls/ While you are at my Fotki, please check out the work on the T-34/85.
I built it before the Sherman.— T-34 is my best work my, M4105 R/C my favorite.
I have only built 4 models in my adulthood (I am going on 58!)–so I know I have a ways to go, but still off to a good start!:)—-check out my KV-!
—-my only 1/35 scale build –I like it Now you have seen my whole portfolio, less my 1/16 Tiger I which has limited documentation.

I am a big fan of your work Hans. best regards, william carls——p.s. I am still reading through your ’ Pocher ’ articles—awsome

    Treads,
Not at all man. Your comments are always a good read, and the links were awesome.
I’ve been thinking for a long time I should do exactly what you did – actually PAINT a model with oils like that.
I’m sitting here right now feeling utterly frustrated and downright disappointed with those bloody Mig pigments. You know what I think: you can never FIX anything with pigments, just mess up more. With oils (and Humbrols, or any proper color I guess) you can always correct mistakes and enhance. NOT so with pigments.
Right now I hate the stuff…

You only built those four models? Wow.. then I take it you must have an artistic background of some sort?
And hey, 58 years – that’s nothing man. Happened to see your mugshot with the bike in the build thread, you look like one cool dude, someone one could share a couple of beers with and talk shop in real life 🙂
    /Hans
