I am looking forward to see the real Viggen-beast on the show.
This model I started as training model in May 2009 to refresh my modeling skills from teenage times. Last time I held airbrush and modeling knife 15 years ago. World was changed dramatically since those sunny days, internet is full of information, web-shops are cracking down from wide range of items you can get (if you even understand how to use it).. I found plenty of scale modeling forums and start learning, reading what is relevant and not much. And I didn't notice how I was poisoned with something called Advanced Modeling Syndrom.
But back to Viggen. I started the model without any plans for perfect bird. Recon version was chosen, just because it looked more interesting to me with those small windows for cameras.
About the kit.
As I found later, Heller kit is most precise geometry and detail-vise, but with outer panel lines. It’s pretty old kit and no surprise that I had problems in fit. One for air intakes. Another issue is in fitting wing to fuselage. Also there are no any details for wheel wheels and cockpit is quite simple. But as I said before – I was not planning any enhancements. Just small details. But..
Stage 1. (modeler from Stone Age)
Assembly
First of all, the fit of the wing. I was not that good in applying putty and sanding. And suddenly all panel lines around the fit between wing and fuselage were gone. „Ok” I said, „I can practice some inner panel lines”. That was where it started to change my plans.

Painting
After a month I found that this model could be a good gift to the customer which I was working for at that time. Half of the 50-man team were sweeds and Viggen is Sweedish. Aircraft has a nice look. What do you need more? Agha, nice painting
