På engelska/amerikanska forum skriver det i stil med "with pastels I made this effect" och liknande...så om pastels inte är kritor (som heter crayons) vad menar de såfall tro?

The word crayon today is mostly associated with the wax type, but crayons come in many forms .... the type using wax as the binder agent, are those that kids use. But they can also be oiled chalk, where oil is the binder, and the type modellers use are made from pastels and a dry binder. The pastels from MIG, etc are just pure pastels and no binder (and probably with some filling/bulking agent).

I have a few brands of pastels and an assortment of colours, but I also use the pastels sticks and sand them down. I use these to paint items where I want a very flat dusty finish. I use some humbrol thinner or lacknafta to disolve them. Painting rocks or even the exhausts on german armor is where I use them most.

Im no expert on the subject, but in my mind, the jars we buy from Mig, MMP, etc are supposed to be pure pastels. Im not so sure as some pure colours can be very expensive, so I think they also use some filling agent to bulk up the quantities. The sticks that are suitable for our needs are just pastel and binder to hold the "crayon" shape.
You cannot really "paint" with Mig´s pastels, as when wet with thinner they will mostly wash away, but with the sanded pastel sticks, you can paint and thinnner wont lift it as it stains more.
The pastel crayons/sticks are available from any decent art store (Kreatima).

Bara på kul så slängde jag ihop en platta till vagnen. Basen är delar ifrån ett par miniart satser blandat med resin ifrån gott och blandat lådan.
