IPMS-UK Polar Special Interest Group

Throughout most of my life, I have been fascinated with the Polar regions. Sadly, I have not had the good fortune to visit either. However, I am attempting to form an IPMS-UK Polar Special Interest Group to run alongside the IPMS-UK Australia & Indonesia Special Interest Group, and I have pleasure in attaching a leaflet for this project as well (innehållet i "the leaflet" finns här nedan).

I would be grateful if you would announce both groups to your membership.

With grateful thanks in anticipation, and best wishes to you all.
Yours faithfully

Anton Burrows

About The Group
From the very dawn of creation itself until recently, the Polar Regions have been dismissed as little more than empty, frozen ice deserts inhabited by just Penguins and Polar Bears, with a few brave but cranky scientists and environmentalists for company.
Nothing could be further from the truth! Very slowly, the world are wak-ing up to the importance of these regions, and how significant changes here can affect the rest of the world, with potentially disastrous consequences!
The IPMS-UK Polar Special Interest Group is NOT a political party or a pressure group. Everyone has their own views (as is their God-given right) about Climate Change and Global Warming, and it is NOT the remit of the group to promote a belief for or against climate change and/or global warming The groups is being formed to promote an appreciation and knowledge of Polar subjects through modelling.
For the purpose of this group, we define Polar as any country or territory that is wholly or partially within the Arctic Circle or the Antarctic Circle. Arctic is defined as Alaska, Canada, Finland, Iceland, Kalaallit Nunaat, Norway, Russia (including the former USSR) and Sweden. Although Iceland is just south of the Arctic Circle, it is included in this project because its history and economy are closely interwoven with the Arctic. We define Antarctic as Antarctica, Ross Island, the Sub-Antarctic Islands, Argentina, Australia, Chile, Falkland Islands and New Zealand. Although Falkland is well outside the Antarctic Circle, most of Britian’s Antarctic territories are administered from Port Stanley, and its history and economy are closely interwoven with Antarctica.
It is planned for the group to appear at as many model shows as finance, transport and work commitments will permit—alternating with the IPMS-UK Australia & Indonesia Special Interest Group, of which I am also the leader. Members are invited and encouraged to run the stand at model shows I can not attend for whatever reasons.
There are NO plans to produce a newsletter myself. However, if there is sufficient demand for it, and another member is willing and able to take this task on, I will give it my absolute and unflinching support. Communication will be by electronic circulars as and when required.
As there is unlikely to be any news-letter, it is equally unlikely a subscription fee will need to be charged. It is envisaged membership will be free.

Hurra! Har sedan länge ett intresse i polarregionerna och en drös modeller på temat, dags att få fart på dem med andra ord. Har just funderat på min snövesslefiat och detta blir ett utmärkt tillfälle att damma av skrovet igen.
