Vad ska man göra med en felaktig F-117 i skala 1/144?

Låtsas som ingenting? Försöka fixa felen? Eller bara kasta bort den? Men det kan man ju inte göra. Nä, bygga en bil känns rätt.

What should one do with an inaccurate F-117 in 1/144 scale?

Ignore the faults and build it? Try to fix the faults? Or perhaps just throw it away? But that isn’t my way. No I will build an automobile.

Den första tanken var att bygga en Batmobile men det skulle vara att göra det för lätt. Fyra hjul och det är klart.

The first thought that crossed my mind was a Batmobile but that would be to easy. Just add four wheels and it would be done.

Blanda in delar från en 1/43 Ferrari F187 från Heller och det blir en Lockheed Formula ett bil. Model F-1/17 från säsongen 1982.

Mix it with parts from a 1/43 scale Ferrari F187 from Heller and it will be a Lockheed Formula one car. The model F-1/17 from the 1982 season.

Jag hade tänkt att använda fram och bakvingen från Hellers byggsats men frontvingen passade inte så den blev för kort när den var tillpassad till nosen. Istället valde jag att använda vingspetsarna från F-117 till nosvingar och sedan limma ihop resten av F-117-vingarna och kapa ut en bakvinge av det.

My intention was to use the wings from the Heller kit on my car but the front wings was to short after they had been cut in the right shape for the nose. Instead I decided to use the wing tips from the F-117 for the front wings and glue the rest of the F-117 wings together and cut out a new rear wing from it.

Jag gillade inte frontvingarna som jag byggt. Dom kändes felplacerade och dessutom upp och ned. Bort med dom slipa lite och limma dit dom på nytt.

I wasn’t happy with my front wings. I felt that they were misplaced and upside down. So I removed them and repositioned them.

Efter det så monterade jag fästen för bakvingen i uttagen där sidofenorna skulle ha monterats på flygplanet.

Then I made the mounts for the rear wing. They were placed in the slots for the fins on the aircraft.

Jag är faktiskt förvånad hur lik en racerbil det faktisk blir. Bakvingen ska få sidor och störtbåge och lite andra detaljer ska till men man kan se varåt det hela lutar.

I am really surprised to find that the F-117 has so much race car in it. The rear wing shall be modified a rollbar and some other small details need to be added but now the general look can be seen.

Dett tråkiga spacklandet och slipandet höll på att döda projektet.

The boring job of puttying and sanding could have killed the project.

Självklart skulle den bli svart. Den första tanken var en John Player Special målning men jag ville ha den Amerikansk. Jag såg då ett oljefat från Texaco på jobbet och bestämde mig för det.

There was no choise but black for this car. I first thought of a John Player Special livery but I wanted it to be American. When I saw a Texaco oil drum at work I had the livery for my car.

Jag ritade upp dekalerna och skrev ut dom på dekalpapper men resultatet blev inte helt bra. Sedan fixade jag till en basplatta. Jag har alltid gillat basplattor men har varit för lat för att ge mig på det. Men nu har det blivit ett par stycken och jag får nog tycka att det är värt att lägga ner lite extra arbete ändå. Så nu var det klart. Två modeller kan strykas från samlingarna. En F-117 i skala 1/144 har blivit en bil i skala 1/43 med hjälp av delar från en 1/43 Ferrari.

I drew the decals and printed them on decal paper. The result wasn’t perfect though. I then made a base for the car. I always liked the concept with bases for models but I’ve always been to lazy to do it. Lately I have been making some and I feel that it is worth the extra time needed to make a simple base. So here we are! Two kits to be scratched from the long list of unbuilt kits in the closet. A 1/144 scale F-117 has been transformed in to a 1/43 scale Formula One car with some parts from a 1/43 scale Ferrari.
