S9 Osprey roundel colours in 1930s
What colours were the roundels of the S9 Osprey aircraft in the 1930s aboard HMS Gotland? Photographs show the three crowns as very dark or black against a white or very light disc.

Hi Michael!
Black Crowns on White disks of the 1927 model. According to "kronmärkt" the markings where of the following dimensions:
Diameter before 1935: Top 1100 mm, Underside 1100 mm, Side 500 mm
Diameter after 1935: Top 800 mm, Underside 800 mm, Side 500 mm

Photo from the Maritime Museum in Stockholm of HMS Gotland in 1933. the numbering in white 24xx where the last two digits are individual airplane no (1-6)

Hope this helps

And also, the vertical stabiliser has the same grey colour as the fuselage. Not blue shown in the color picture above.

Re: S9 Osprey roundel colours in 1930s
Thank you, gentlemen!
After posting my inquiry,I notice in the book S9 Hawker Osprey och Gotland, page 81, the photograph caption: "Number 1, in the markings introduced in 1937, is catapulted off on a reconnaissance mission." These markings are yellow crowns on a blue roundel, with the aircraft mostly olive green. This I think is the necessary colour scheme for my 1/700 HMS Gotland, for the weak reason that I already painted the tiny aircraft olive green.
I started my model a scratch-build in 2008, before HP Models introduced the resin kit. My model uses HP Models kit parts for the range finders and for the deckhouse abaft the second funnel. The rest of my model is scratch-built, including PE of my design for the crane and the catapult. I modeled six S9's: three with extended wings and three with folded wings.

Feel free to post some pictures of your model here. It would be nice to see.
I sure wish that there was a kit in 1/350 scale of the the Gotland.
