My name is Frank Glackin, and come originally from County Donegal in Northwest Ireland. I came to Sweden in April 1996, for what was supposed to be a 3-month contract with work, but I have lived in Stockholm since then.
I met my wife Janine here and when we were waiting on the birth of our daughter Kayleigh in 2001, she dragged me to some children’s shops to look at prams and baby clothes. Our local “Barnens Hus” had a pretty decent selection of Tamiya and Academy models at the time, and while my wife was dreaming of babies elsewhere in the shop, the model section is where I was usually doing my dreaming. As a joke that Christmas, she bought me a model and I built and painted it that weekend, and had 2 or 3 more models finished within a month.
I decided to check online to see if any more adults built military models and to my surprise found a few sites, one of which was IPMS Stockholm. I joined them shortly afterwards and pretty much everything since, has been shown on various pages around the net.
I feel somewhat privileged to be part of the current Swedish modelling scene, as it ranks among the best in the world, in my opinion. I’ve been very lucky to have met most of these guys during the last few years, and they have provided much needed help, support and inspiration along the way, as well as some very fun social events.
My main interest area is WW2 (all nationalities in 1/35 scale) and the occasional figure, but I have also built a few modern items, that I have found interesting.
